Minahasa Botanical Gardens - Kebun Raya Minahasa

Minahasa is one district which lies in North Sulawesi Province. Referring to the high plant diversity in Sulawesi who have transitional characteristics between the plants of Asia and Australasia. 

The high rate of deforestation of about 173 260 ha per year (2000-2005), the idea of the establishment of botanical gardens as ex situ conservation areas in Minahasa Regency are steps that need to be supported by all parties. 

Location Minahasa Botanical Garden planning area of 186 hectares is based on SK Bupati Minahasa No: 204/BM/VIII-2009 dated August 13, 2009.




This location is a state-owned land located in the Village Makaweimben, North Tondano District, Minahasa Regency. Conservation "highland plants Wallacea 'is a theme that has been established to remember the location of the Garden Minahasa.

Minahasa Botanical is located at the base" Wallacea Line ", and location planning is at an altitude of 900-1100 m above sea level. This theme is expected to invite the community to better recognize and appreciate the richness of plant Minahasa. 

Related to its function was also set its vision and mission of the Minahasa Botanical Gardens is a conservation center, education, research, and recreation are being developed as potential Minahasa Highlands preservation plants Wallacea.

Currently, Minahasa Botanical Garden physically underdeveloped, but still at the stage of preparation. Concept plans have been prepared exploiting zone in the year 2009. It is expected that these concepts to guide the development of Minahasa Botanical Garden

In planning the development of botanical gardens have been established agencies that play a role in realizing the Minahasa Botanical Gardens under the coordination of the Forestry Service and Department of Public Works.
